About Us

Bee-lieve it or not, I’m severely allergic to bee stings—and I was actually afraid of bees growing up—which makes this whole beekeeping journey as thrilling as it is meaningful.

I’m Taylor, and my husband George and I run Gates Honey together from our little slice of land in Maryland. My love for bees didn’t start early—but it was passed down. In adulthood, I found myself drawn to nature and the living world around me. That’s when my uncle, a lifelong beekeeper, began sharing his passion with me—passing along knowledge, supplies, and a deep respect for the hive.

Today, our bees forage in a thriving, pesticide-free sanctuary filled with over 1,000 trees, shrubs, and flowering plants. It’s estimated that bees must visit over 2 million flowers to make just one pound of honey—so we’ve made it our mission to plant abundantly and steward our land responsibly.

At Gates Honey, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword. We only harvest surplus honey, always ensuring the bees have more than enough to sustain themselves through winter. We also reject any practices that endanger or sacrifice bees in the name of convenience—including lethal mite testing methods like the alcohol or sugar roll. Our approach is slow, respectful, and always puts the bees first.

Every jar is raw, unfiltered, and hand-poured with care. We never blend, pasteurize, or add anything artificial.

Your purchase helps us grow our gardens, support healthy hives, and expand pollinator habitats right here in Maryland. It’s more than just honey—it’s a labor of love, stewardship, and just a little bit of risk.

Note: Do not feed honey to infants under 1 year of age.
